The Week In Words
The excitement of Alan Shearer leading the Toon Army out only lasted a little while as Frank lampard and co were out to spoil the party. It was a great response from Chelsea after their loss at Spurs. It keeps them in the hunt for the title.
Once again Benayoun came up with a late goal for Liverpool and it looked as though it would be enough to keep them top as the game at Old Trafford drew to a close but late Ronaldo and a goal from the young 17 year old Macheda was enough to give United all 3 points and put them back top.
Things are looking ever-so gloomy for Middlesbrough after they got stuffed at Bolton, whilst Stoke gave themselves a great chance of staying up by winning at The Hawthorns and putting themselves 6 points clear of the drop. Meanwhile Newcastle still have it all to do if they want to stay up. They have a tough run in and will have to start picking up points if they want any chance of survival.
A few teams are beginning to look safe, Spurs, Bolton, Fulham and Man City all seem to be safe from relegation and not likely to push for Europe.
West Ham have really cemented their bid for 7th with their 2-0 win over Sunderland who are definitely now involved in the relegation battle.

The Week In Words
Well after the international break we have a busy month ahead for us managers with transfers left. There are however a few more international games Wednesday night but then the Premiership resumes as normal and there is lots at stake. The title race is on, the European race is on and the relegation battle is extremely fragile with any number of clubs in the fight.
Injury worries will be the main problem for clubs and i’m sure there will be a few more come Thursday morning, so just hold those transfers…..
This weekend we have a full fixture list with highlights including Arsenal who are entertaining Man City. Arsenal, in a rich vein of form and are finally looking down at the teams below instead of up at the chasing the pack for fourth spot and have even spoken of catching Chelsea. We also have in the late kick off on Saturday, Liverpool traveling to Craven Cottage. Liverpool could go top of the beat the Cottagers. Whilst Chelsea travel to St James Park where surely anything other than a win will rule them out of the title race completely.
On the Sunday we have Everton who face Wigan. Everton look in good shape to finish sixth but the race for seventh is very much on between a number of clubs including West Ham, Fulham, Man City and Spurs. Also on Sunday we have Man Utd hosting Villa. It will be interesting to see how both sides respond to recent losses.

The week in words…
What a difference Guus Hiddink has made at Chelsea already. What a result for Chelsea at Aston Villa it was. It was enough to lift them above Villa in the table. With that win and the fact Liverpool dropped more points at home, this time to Man City, Chelsea will definitely fancy their chances of finishing at least second now.
Man Utd show no sign if letting up and are now seven points clear over Liverpool and ten over Chelsea. You have to think they will win it now.
Arsenal again dropped more points at home but fortunately for them Villa lost and Everton failed to capitalise on Newcastle having only ten men as Kevin Nolan was sent off for a wreck less challenge.
Not one of the bottom seven have won this week. The Baggies losing at Craven Cottage which will be a disappointment for them. Whilst Middlesbrough failed to score again and now have only scored one goal in nine Premier league games. If that continues then they are sure to go down.
Bolton picked up a vital win over West Ham and Pompey left it late to deny Stoke a massive three points at The Britannia Stadium. A few injuries to take note of this week. Mikel Arteta the main concern for the toffees.

The week in words…
The two sacking’s during the week seemed to have worked. Portsmouth beat Man City comfortably at Fratton Park and Chelsea cruised past Watford in the FA Cup, Anelka drumming a hat trick.
Elsewhere this weekend it was pretty much business as usual. Man Utd stuffed Derby 4-1 at Pride Park and Everton beat fellow in-form side Aston Villa 3-1 at Gooderson.
There were a hand full of draws involving Premiership teams and Championship sides with Coventry holding Blackburn to a 2-2 draw, Sheffield United drawing 1-1 with Hull and Swansea drawing 1-1 with Fulham. These will not have been what the Premiership teams will have wanted as the season draws to a close, the fixtures get congested and 3 points needed to stay out of relegation, therefore a FA Cup replay would not be welcomed.
A couple of games during the week as Man Utd have their game in hand over Fulham this Wednesday and Arsenal entertain Cardiff on Monday. Then we are back to normality with a full list of Premiership fixtures this weekend. Pick of the bunch a massive game at Villa Park as Villa host Chelsea.

| The week in words
The main talking point from last weeks games was the match between Liverpool and Chelsea. An action packed game, with the sending off of Frank lampard and Torres grabbing two late goals. Maybe ending Chelsea’s title hopes.
Villa and Arsenal could both only manage home draws to lower opposition and both will feel they missed out on a chance to battle for that fourth spot.
Man City again lost to continue their up – down season. They have strengthen with Shay Given though.
Newcastle and Sunderland played out a draw in the derby whilst Fulham continued Tony Adam’s woeful start and Bolton had enough to see off Spurs after they came from two down.
Hull and West Brom also played out a draw at The KC Stadium and Utd had enough to see off Everton and help Van Der Sar break the record for not conceding a goal in the Premiership. |

The week in words
Three weeks ago Liverpool were clear at the top of the table. If you take a look now, they are scrapping for third place. It’s these few crucial weeks that can decide a season and Manchester United have really shown their squad strength and depth. While they have won their last six games scoring in all competitions, scoring 16 goals. Liverpool have drawn their last four, only scoring 3.
This weekend will prove to be another crunch weekend as Liverpool host Chelsea. You have to feel that who ever wins this will then go on to be the main challengers in the title race. If the two draw then United will be laughing.
In the other fixtures, Man Utd have a tough test against Everton whilst their is a big Tyne-Wear derby at Newcastle too. There is plenty of relegation dog fights over the weekend too as Bolton entertain Tottenham, Hull host West Brom, Middlesbrough play Blackburn and Stoke play Man City.
Expect a busy few days as the transfer window draws to a close and with the media suggesting that Shay Given will be a Man City player and Andrei Arshavin an Arsenal player, I have a feeling that this is just the tip of the iceberg.

The week in words
Well the FA Cup is now an exclusive competition for the Premiership and the Championship teams. However, there were a few scares for some of the teams as Kettering came from behind to almost earn themselves a draw against Premier League outfit Fulham. Coventry left it late at Torquay and my team Ipswich put up a great fight at Chelsea only to be undone by Ballack and Lampard free kicks.
There are a few replays involving Premiership teams for West Brom who are at Burnley, Liverpool at Everton, Villa hosting Doncaster, Cardiff off to the Emerites and Sunderland traveling to Blackburn. All of this will create a great chance for some of us Fantasy Football managers to get an extra transfer in to boost our overall position…
There seems to be football everywhere you look these days. There is a full Premiership fixture list this week with games on Tuesday and Wednesday. The pick of the bunch would be a battered Man Utd traveling to The Hawthorns, Everton hosting Arsenal, Liverpool at Wigan and Pomey entertaining Villa. Not to forget Ipswich traveling to Barnsley!!
You may think that was enough football, but there then is a full fixture list on the Saturday again with Everton traveling to Old Trafford and Liverpool playing Chelsea. It sure is going to be a busy week.

Well it’s been a busy festive period so far. Man Utd return as World Champions and went to a hostile Britannia Stadium. Tevez snatched a late winner for Utd.
Liverpool and Chelsea got comfortable home wins over Bolton and West Brom, Robbie Keane and Drogba back on target for the top two.
Mark Hughes and Man City stuffed Phil Browns Hull, who held the half time team talk on the pitch infront of the travelling Hull fans.
In the other boxing day events, West Ham got a famous win at Pompey, Fulham played out another away 0-0, this time at Spurs whilst Sunderland and Blackburn also competed in a 0-0 draw. Wigan kept up their impressive form with a 2-1 victory over The Toon Army.
Everton won away from home again. Beating Boro at The Riverside, Tim cahill with the only goal of the game.

The week In Words
From what I can recall, you have to back to 6th December to find the last win in the Premier League from one of the so called “Big Four”. To me, that’s great. This season, teams are heading to The Emerites, Anfield and even Stamford Bridge and collecting points.
Unlike last season, the relegation battle may just be open for all three spots. If Man City had of won at The Hawthorns yesterday then you could have said thank you and good night to West Brom, however, West Brom snatched it late on and dragged themselves to just four points from Spurs and West Ham.
Mark Hughes has been given the backing from the Man City board, but if they lose at Blackburn next week they could find themselves second bottom. Not quite what they would have had in mind this season.
In the other weekends news, Villa left it late to move up to third with a 1-0 win at Upton Park. Newcastle moved up to 15th with another late goal. Its just so tight this season that Everton who are 7th are only 7 points off the drop zone. Unbelievable.
